A sample of Beryllium metal in the form of a gyroscope sphere weighing 9.6g.  Purity is 99%.  This sphere was originally part of the SPN/Geans (Standard Precision Navigator/Gimbaled Electrostatically Suspended Aircraft Navigator) system used in the F117 stealth fighter and B-52 bomber.  The sphere was originally machined to an exact 1.50000".  The system has since been discontinued from use due to the high maintenance cost.  These spheres rarely come up for sale from time to time.  When they do, it's usually because the sphere itself has failed during rotational operation and crashed into the inner housing.  These almost always have scratches and dents on the surface like this one does.  Please see the photos.  This is still an amazing piece of machined Be metal!
